Notes

The principles in this episode are inspired by the book Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin

STEP 1: PLAN

Goal = The one thing that defines success

Objectives = The steps that will lead to the goal

Reconnaissance = Consider and research the best means of growth.  Discover what is keeping you stuck.  Study cutting edge ideas and find inspiration to overcome hurdles.  Let your research inspire your objectives.

Strategies = The types of behaviors and dispositions that will contribute to your objectives

Tactics = The specific things you will actually do

STEP 2: PRACTICE

“Discipline equals freedom.” - Jocko Willink

Drill = What would make you victorious in a moment of difficulty?  Design a set of tactics that will lead to success.  Set an alarm, and do it daily when there is no temptation.  This will form a habit that will support you in the heat of combat.

Align for Battle

Flank - Arrange allies to your sides to help support you when you are vulnerable.  Build relationships with trusted friends and advisors who you can call on in moments of struggle.

Backup - Cover your back with the Communion of Saints and Angels.  Identify and enlist a team of heavenly allies who you can find inspiration from, build relationships with, and call on when you feel overwhelmed.

STEP 3: EXECUTE

Principles #1 = Extreme Ownership = Take complete ownership over your actions.  Never blame anyone else.

Principle #2 = Cover & Fire = Do not attack the enemy head-on without cover.  Take an indirect approach; approach from the flank.

Principle #3 = Decentralized Command = The ability to creatively and intuitively make adjustments.

Principle #4 = Default Aggressive = Take all the ground you can when you have the motivation.  Avoid excuses.  Give your whole life to God.

Move the line of battle.  What should you do if you get stuck and can’t accomplish one of your objectives?  Make a new plan.  Shift that objective to become the new goal, and design a new plan around the specific place where you are stuck.
