Athena Getsi
Read bio
My name is Athena Getsi. I was born and raised in the Toledo area! My mother made sure we all were in the Catholic Church as much as possible, she even made up “holy days” to get our butts there! I’ve been in ministry since I was a freshman in college and have been the youth minister at St. Joseph’s in Maumee for four years. I have a deep calling to spread Jesus to all those around me, especially teens! I met my husband through youth ministry and we have two boys under five!
Lauren Strauss

My name is Lauren Strauss and I was born and raised in the Cleveland area! I enjoy being active and going on adventures, I love the beach, and I’m a huge fan of sharks. But the cool thing about me is that I followed God to St. Rose in Perrysburg not long after I graduated college where I became a youth minister. I’ve had a passion to lead others closer to Christ since I was a teen in high school and I’m lo.oking forward to where He continues to lead on this wild journey towards Heaven!

33. The “P” word - with Jason Evert
In this episode, we welcome Jason Evert to QuaranTEEN! Known for his efforts to create a culture of chastity, he chats with us about pornography and how prevalent it is in our world. And know that it isn’t just a problem for men but women too. Jason also offers us tips on how to combat this sin to live more freely.
32. Bling Bling Diamond Ring
It’s an easy way to spot a Christian, right? Like see a crucifix around their neck and you know they believe in Jesus. But are we acting like the piece that we wear has meaning in our lives? If we wanna show off our faith, that’s awesome! We should also want to live it!
31. Catholics and the Bible
As Catholics, we tend to be known for not always knowing the Bible super well. Why is that? Possibly due to lack of discipline, going through the motions, or “getting it all at Mass”. Maybe this episode will help you to start thinking about picking it up again…
30. Knock it off Catholics
Reconciliation is a gift. It’s a super holy gift. And we tend to forget that. We want to justify our sins because Confession is a thing and we will be fine. So how do we break this habit? What are your intentions?
Let’s be better!
28. Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People
A follow up of last week’s episode on suffering. Why do bad things happen to good people is a major question that’s a tough one to answer. We can reason with it but we will never know the full answer. We have to trust in God and meet our sufferings at the Cross.
27. Suffering
In this episode of QuaranTEEN, we tackle the topic of suffering. Regardless, suffering is bound to enter into our lives and it’s up to us to respond to it as Christ would; bearing the Cross we were given. Suffering doesn’t make sense to us and we don’t understand why things happen or why God allows certain things, but we must take up our Cross and ask God for His endless Grace and strength.
26. Spring Cleaning for the Soul
Sometimes it isn’t until after Easter that we realize our Lent was super lax and not what we needed. Or we go through Lent and it’s hard. Then Easter comes and we celebrate. And now what?!
Have you ever thought about spring cleaning for your soul? You know, going to Mass and actually praying it. Opening up your dust covered Bible. Going to confession and not holding back. This spring start with a clean slate! Let’s be renewed in Christ together!
25. The Year of St. Joseph
The Pope declared this year as the year of St. Joseph and what a gift! St. Joseph is not only Jesus’ foster father but is a wonderful spiritual father for us to look up to as well. This year, may we focus on calling upon St. Joseph’s intercession to pray for us and that we may live more like him!
24. How is your Lent going?
Lent is hard. We get it. And it’s not always fun to talk about or to live through. But Easter is coming. And Jesus did the work. He did the hardest work. So it’s our turn. These 40 days are supposed to help us better ourselves! What would you say if Christ sat down in front of you right now to talk? Lent has 3 parts and all matter: Fasting, Almsgiving, and Prayer.
23. St. Patrick
We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day every year but I bet you didn’t know these facts about him! Next year we challenge you to pray the Breastplate Prayer and the Litany of Humility on St. Patrick’s Day. Tune in to find out why!
22. The Eucharist
The Eucharist is the SOURCE and SUMMIT of our faith. It’s not just a symbol but is actually Jesus in the flesh. Every time we go to receive communion or spend time in Eucharistic Adoration, we are consuming Him and find ourselves face to face with the One who nourishes us.
21. Power of Prayers
There are a lot of different types and forms of prayer that we as Catholics practice and utilize in our lives. Some of these include praying “rote prayers” such as the Our Father and Hail Mary. Other forms of prayer that are extremely important to your growth include personal prayer and praying with others through intercessory prayer.
20. Farewell Fr Kidd & Messing Up
In this episode, Lauren and Athena talk about the messiness of our lives and how we can learn from the messiness of the Saints’ lives too. Just like us, the Saints were humans too and God continues to forgive and love you no matter what you’ve done.
19. What are Catholic Saints?
Saints can be confusing. Do we worship them? How are we supposed to pray with them? Come join us as we dive into the communion of Saints and why we have them. Who are they?! Father gives a great description!
18. What’s the Deal with Mother Mary?
Do you realize how cool Mary is?! We get it, sometimes Mary in the Catholic faith can be confusing to others. But let’s clear some things up!
Mary was faced with one of the most difficult tasks ever. And yet she didn’t hesitate when she said yes to the Lord and literally raised our Savior. What?! Sometimes we don’t realize the strength it took for Mary to live the life she did! Let’s look at her life and dive into why she means so much to us!
17. Why the Church Matters!
Ever felt like the Church is just a bunch of old guys giving you rules? It’s hard in today’s world to follow Church teachings. Especially when we don’t understand where the heck the Church came from. How in the world are we supposed to know She contains truth? And how do we not look at Her as a list of “do not do’s” in our life?
16. Ladies Edition #sisterhood
Society tells us to be better. Dress better, look better, date better, etc. But did you know God created you the way you are for a reason? And He also wants you to be better. But He wants you to be the better version of yourself, not the better version society is pushing for. So let’s work together, not against each other, ladies.
15. Ringing in the New Year
In this episode, Athena and Lauren tackle questions about the New Year and how to set our minds straight as we head into it. We'll be sharing how you can keep resolutions REAListic, that is, IF you decide to make them. And I'm sure you've heard or said yourself "I wish it was 2021 already." But we need to remember that everything isn't just going to go away after the ball drops. So how are we going to change our mindset for 2021 and live for this time we've been created for?
14. Respect
Respect seems harder and harder to come by these days and that's why we wanted to talk about why it's so crucial in our lives. We are called to respect others but that doesn't mean we have to agree with everyone. Kind of like how we're always called to love, but that doesn't mean we're going to like everyone that comes into our life. It all starts in our home with the people who live under the same roof as us. That will then seep into every other encounter and relationship in our lives.
