17. Men & the Movies
The men discuss movies, TV shows, stories and the potential they have to help or hinder our spiritual growth. Our culture has popularized the idea of binge watching our entertainment, causing us to be consumed by what we consume. In this episode, the men go deeper into how to best approach the media we watch.
16. Jesus Talk
The men address a tendency to avoid spirituality in everyday conversations. Do we find it awkward to talk about faith in Christ with other people? Often times we wait for the “right opportunity” to share the faith with those around us. Shying away from deep conversations is a common modern issue. Yet depth is exactly what all of us are looking for!
15. Adulting and Video Games
The men discuss if video games are an appropriate form of leisure for grown men. With all the demands of adult life sometimes we just need a little escape. There are many forms of leisure and communal activities. But is there such a thing as a “higher form” of leisure? Does it really matter? How should we spend our precious free time?
14. Men, Work, and Worship
The men talk work, building order out of chaos, and being co-creators with God. When work gives us purpose we must also discover what the true purpose of work is. There is a need for leisure in our culture and a need for worship. The difficulty is learning to submit everything to God’s lordship both in work and in leisure.
13. Remember Your Death
Lent is a time to Memento Mori (remember death). Being created for eternity, this mortal life is not the ultimate end to which we were made. Like a child waiting to be born from its mother’s womb so are we waiting to be born, through death, into eternity.
12. Information is Power
The men discuss if there such as thing as too much information. Is it possible to have an information addiction? Between social media, 24hr news networks, and the vast ocean of knowledge that can be found on the internet, have we become too attached to an endless stream of data? Watch as the men strive to understand what drives us to search out constant knowledge and how to balance this within a healthy spiritual life.
11. Arguments and The Pursuit of Truth
The men debate how to have healthy discussions with people who stand on the other side of the fence. What is a real argument and how can we disagree without losing our minds? If the first step to a good argument is seeking the truth then we have to be open to seeking truth above satisfying our own agendas. So what is the ultimate goal of our conversations, debates, and discussions? How do we keep our ego out of it when truth is the ultimate end?
10. Should Santa be Part of Christmas?
The men discuss whether or not children should believe in Santa Claus. Is it a lie to perpetuate the legend of Good Old St. Nick? Is there a definitive moral answer to the question of believing in Santa Claus vs not believing in him?
9. Pacifism vs Violence
How do we distinguish between when to act in passivism and when to act with force? The men discuss the problem of self-defense vs martyrdom. Can we justify violence if it’s for the greater good?
8. What Do We Know About Heaven?
The men discuss how, made in God’s image, human beings have an immortal soul. Therefore Heaven and Hell are clear realities for the human person. What does this mean for animals? Is it theologically sound to say that our pets could occupy Heaven with us?
7. Halloween Pt. 2: Secular or Sacred Holiday?
The men discuss the religious roots of Halloween. Is there anything wrong with celebrating a holiday that mocks death and the devil? Between spooky decorations, dressing up, and handing out candy is there a way to integrate the secular and the sacred?
6. Halloween Pt. 1: Should Catholics watch scary movies?
The men discuss whether or not horror movies can be justified entertainment.
Halloween often incorporates dark subject matter that some people find questionable. From scary movies, to magic, the occult, and Satan himself can there be such a thing as good horror?
5. Are You Living the Dream?
Passion vs duty. Calling vs dream. Are they diametrically opposed? From opera singing to seminary, how do our dreams fit into our vocations? The men discuss what it means to follow your dreams and how that can fit into God's plan for our lives. How do we balance duty and passion? And what our desires say about our hearts.
4. Church Clothes: How what we wear to mass matters
The men discuss what it means to look your Sunday best. Does it matter what we wear to mass? How does the culture influence this? Can the language of our bodies really convey our interior posture toward the Divine?
2. Men, Abortion, and the Pro-Life Movement
The men discuss abortion, the pro-life movement, and how to be pro-life as a man.
1. What is Manliness?
What does it look like to be a strong, healthy, loving, integrated man? Today we contrast the culture's view of manliness, with the Church's view of manliness, how negative examples of manliness effect us, and how we can become good examples of it.
