Scientism = The reduction of reason to scientific inquiry. The belief that the scientific method is the only objective way to find truth.

Natural Faith = "Faith is simply acting as if something is true."

Three Evidences for Faith

  1. A Document - there is excellent evidence for the accuracy of the New Testament based on Textual Criticism. I was introduced to this idea by the ALPHA course. Watch episode 2 of the ALPHA Film Series at https://youtu.be/HtTnSMNtE44, especially the interview with Dr. Alister McGrath from minutes 7:30 to 10:00, for a more detailed analysis.

  2. The witness of Others - Billions of people from history witness to the accuracy of the Gospel with their lives

  3. Personal Experience - "My life makes no sense if God isn't real. If you don't think God is real, you either have to think that I am wrong, I'm mistaken, I'm crazy, or I'm bad, I'm trying to deceive you."

"Give it a shot, pray. If God doesn't exist nothing will happen. If God does exist something might happen. Give it a try"

Apodictic = "of the nature of necessary truth or absolute certainty" - Mirriam-Webster Dictionary.

Supernatural Faith = "To make this act of faith, the grace of God and the interior help of the Holy Spirit must precede and assist, moving the heart and turning it to God, opening the eyes of the mind and giving 'joy and ease to everyone in assenting to the truth and believing it.'" Dei Verbum, Vatican II, 5

"Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed the light of reason on the human mind "Dei Filius, Vatican I, 4
